Dress Properly for the Cold

Dress according to the weather — it’s an important element of dealing with winter season. Since you’re going out for a photographic excursion, keep your feet warm with a pair of boots. Besides, don’t over-dress so that you could at least feel a slight chill inside and avoid overheating. Thought gloves are important, but since you’re going for clicking the pictures, prefer wearing a thin pair of gloves.

Avoid Condensation Inside the Camera Lens

Do not keep your camera packed in a cotton coated bag or under the coat. When you’ll take out the camera in a chilly winter — this could lead to harmful condensation inside the camera lens. It is, therefore, better to keep the camera in a simple bag so as to avoid condensation and shortening out electronic components.

Keep Extra Battery Backup

You cannot avoid quick draining of battery during winter season. Though newer lithium ion batteries are better, it would be wise to keep extra batteries with you. Unlike the camera, batteries need to be kept in a pocket or inside the coat to avoid fast draining of the same.

Photographic Techniques in Winter and Snow

It is always a good idea to capture in raw, especially when it is winter and snow outside. One of the benefits of raw shooting is that it gives the flexibility in post-production and fixing the picture. This flexibility is not available if a picture is taken in JPEG format.
